John Sloan

John has worked in publishing and editorial roles for 40 years with Multnomah and Zondervan. He offers his services for freelance work in the areas of book development, collaboration, writer coaching, book doctoring, macro editing, and content editing.

He has worked with a broad spectrum of book and author types. He has edited the literary and general market works of authors like Philip Yancey and Frederick Buechner; the popular issues volumes of writers like Chuck Colson; the high-visibility authors like Lee Strobel and Ben Carson; and the broader market authors and pastors like John Ortberg and Mark Batterson.

“John was my partner for almost two decades. He played the role in helping to hone the ‘sacred’ message. He’s had the courage in speaking the necessary, difficult words as well as the encouraging words. I’m also so grateful for his faith—His commitment to the Lord felt like a shelter as I always knew I was working with a brother in arms as we sought God’s best together.”
—Lee Strobel

“John Sloan is the quintessential writer’s editor. The authors he has nurtured comprise a Hall of Fame in Christian publishing. Somehow he manages to convey support and encouragement in the very process of pruning and refining the words we cling to so protectively. Yet he does all this with a gentle, motivating spirit that humbly serves the craft. He’s been a loyal and helpful partner over the years, and an editorial adviser in so many of my books.”
—Philip Yancey
