Edit Resource - Jamie Chavez

Jamie Chavez

Jamie Chavez worked for more than 10 years in the Christian publishing industry (and more than 20 as a freelance copywriter) before she found her niche as an independent writer and editor in 2004.

As an editor, Chavez believes goodwill and relationship with an author are as important as her way with that author’s manuscript. She wants to be on the author’s team, and can lead when it’s called for. (In fact, she’s worked with many authors repeatedly, book after book.)

Raised in California’s San Joaquin Valley, Ms. Chavez was educated in both California and Middle Tennessee, where she also raised her son, and currently resides with her hilarious Irish born and bred husband, who serves as a reference for all Irish material in manuscripts.

Chavez counts many national publishing houses as clients, many authors and agents as friends, and spends her days in the swanky second-floor office in the pink house with the green door making good books better. You can read more about her—including her thoughts about books and authors, writing and editing, words and language, and the publishing industry—at her personal website (link below).

“So what kind of spell have you put on my authors? All those who have worked with you had nothing but good things to say. They love you!”
—Becky Germany, senior fiction editor, Barbour Publishing

“I think the thing that makes you my fave editor is that I feel so safe putting my work in your hands. That isn’t always the case with editors, and I so appreciate you.”
—Nancy Rue, author, The Reluctant Prophet

“As far as I’m concerned, I want to work with you until Jesus comes or you tire of my split infinitives and incessant use of the word amazing! My writing and my life improved when I met you, Jamie.”
—Arron Chambers, author, pastor
