Susan has 20 years’ experience in publishing as a copy editor and production editor, serving many of those years as chief production editor for Abingdon Press. Susan received her BS in English-journalism from Tennessee Technological University, with minors in history and foreign language (especially French). She is still a history fan, with wide and varied interests, and also a bit of a medical buff.
Susan has worked with authors such as Deborah Raney, Babbie Mason, NFL running back Eddie George, Barbara Mahany, James W. Moore, Barb Roose, and Cynthia Ruchti. Her work covers numerous genres, including adult fiction and nonfiction and academic book series such as The Bicentennial Edition of the Works of John Wesley and The Abingdon Old Testament Commentary.
Her high level of organization and expertise in editing, project tracking, and permissions make her very capable to handle your editing needs.
“In decades working as a journalist and author (at a major American newspaper for nearly thirty years, and with four published books and a fifth on the way), I’ve worked with scores of editors and emphatically know Susan Cornell to be among the rarest. She’s at the very top of the list in terms of her meticulous attention to every last detail in the book’s editing, design, and layout. She’s gifted with encyclopedic knowledge of style, grammar, and usage; her unending kindness makes the whole exercise not just bearable but utterly joyful. To be the author of a book under Susan’s fastidious eye is to know that all will be well, and the book that’s delivered to the world will be as flawless as it could possibly be.”
—Barbara Mahany, journalist and author
“Susan is an excellent production editor and a valued asset. She has taken a leadership role in maintaining on-time delivery of projects to the printer and to the market. She is a great colleague and a joy to work with. She has come in under budget despite having to overcome a backlog of titles. Susan has also had to make up time when manuscripts have been delivered late and has done so graciously with no loss of accuracy. She is an excellent employee.”
