Jean Kavich Bloom

Jean has been in the publishing industry for over 35 years, including serving as the executive managing editor for Zondervan.

Today, as an independent editor, Jean is engaged by both Christian publishing houses and individual authors. She offers substantive, line, and copy editing for fiction and nonfiction books. Several of her publisher clients request that she work directly with their authors, and some engage her to perform all three stages of editing for a single book, providing unique continuity. In addition, she offers non-byline writing services.

Jean’s publishing house clients have included Harvest House, Baker Books, Chosen Books, Bethany House Publishers, Kregel Publications, and HarperCollins Christian Publishing. She’s provided editing for more than 150 nonfiction titles and more than 100 novels and novellas, including a Christy Award winner and three Carol Award winners.

“Working with Jean Bloom is pure joy. We first met when she came alongside me during an especially difficult project, and she provided needed clarity and insight—along with such encouragement. Her eye for detail is excellent, especially as it relates to timelines and character development.”
—Tamera Alexander, author of With This Pledge

“My favorite part of the editorial collaboration is the way in which a gifted editor is able to reach into my mind and anticipate the way I would love for my thoughts and words to be arranged on the page. I trust Jean implicitly with my work and am always looking forward to our next project. With Jean, my books become our books, and I simply wouldn’t have it any other way.”
—Rachel McMillan, author of Dream, Plan, and Go

“As a first-time author, I was nervous about the editing process, worrying that my message would be watered down or my writing style would be changed. Thankfully, I was beyond pleasantly surprised working with Jean as my editor. She clarified and honed my writing, causing my message and writing style to really shine. I could not be happier working with Jean.”
—Melissa Johnson, author of Soul-Deep Beauty
